When was the last time you received a compliment?

A British man is attempting to cheer up the nation’s women – and set a new record in the process – by giving out 100,000 free compliments over a two-week period. At the half-way point, he has managed to make thousands of women feel good already, taking to the streets and answering every email request sent in.

The great big compliment giveaway came in response to research commissioned by QVC Beauty that reveals 41 per cent of women have not received a single compliment in the past 12 months, with one in four men (25 per cent) admitting they rarely think of dishing them out.

QVC Beauty, the new TV channel entirely dedicated to beauty from retail giant QVC, has appointed Yorkshire comedian and international charmer Bryan Lacey, 31, to the post of The Complimentor to issue random messages of kindness and encourage women to feel good about themselves.

Bryan Lacey, now known as The Complimentor, comments:
“The world is a very serious place at the moment, but there is always room for a compliment.  They are simple to give and great to receive so I’m hoping that I can spread 100,000 little moments of happiness, which will brighten up the receiver’s day.  To hit the target I have to give away roughly two compliments a minute, but I’m confident I can be chivalrous until the end.”

Now think about it - when was the last time you have received a compliment? But maybe even most importantly, when was the last time you gave one?
It doesn't really require much effort - go on and make someone smile. You will soon find it is contagious.

Lanvin for H&M exclusive collection

We can't wait for get our hands on the fabulous collection created by Alber Elbaz, fashion designer for Lanvin for H&M. It will be available in H&M stores in the UK and online from 02 November.
This is one of the first images released from the campaign shot in Paris by photographer David Sims, modeled by  Natatsha Poly, Hannelore Knuts e Simon Nessman. The mood is very sophisticated,  as you would expect from the French maison, with splashes of colorful cocktail dresses and stylish accessories.
Have your credit cards ready, ladies, this won't last long..

It will be a hot winter with Pinko collection of thigh high boots!

Italian designers Peter Negra and Cristina Rubini's Pinko line has been making headlines this winter with a collection of incredibly hot thigh high boots - leather boots that reach the thigh area and look more like leggings (or trousers) than footwear!
Paired with stylish mini dresses and tailored coats, they look absolutely stunning and I particularly love the beige colour. I wonder whether this trend will make it to Australia, but for all the fashionistas amongst you, there is no reason to wait until next winter - just jump online at www.pinko.it.

New fashionable hosiery trends from Europe!

Just returned from Europe where the combo knee-high socks and chunky shoes seems to be a major trend this year! Knee-highs are a very stylish alternative to tights and stockings, particularly in warmer weather. Worn with floaty chiffon dresses they give you a carefree, bohemian look but if you prefer smart & sleek then an 'all black' look is the way to go..

Some of my favourite knee-high fashion socks are from Italian brand Trasparenze. Particularly the Raisa (see below) a black opaque with a very eye-catching lace design at the back. Chic and a little noir..

Against the background of a theatre, all-clear for eccentric charm, the Omsa woman makes her entrance. A showy woman who can play the most fantastic role. SEXY legs are making a statement for budget-conscious women as hemlines rise.
Winter stocking sales are soaring, with major brands reporting an increase of 65-70 per cent on this time last year for their collections of kaleidoscope colours and kooky-print tights.
Economists in the US, where hosiery sales have also skyrocketed, dubbed the craze a new "Lipstick Index" for measuring consumer sentiment during financial downturns.
Lipstick purchases have tended to grow during periods of economic hardship, with women buying make-up instead of expensive clothes and accessories, and now hosiery appears to be part of that trend.
Demand for fashionable legwear is being driven by the mini-skirt craze this season, as well as the affordability of hosiery for stylish women who want to update their wardrobe cheaply. Shoppers are getting more adventurous, with hosiery in modern, bold designs including crocodile skin and polka dots, and bright block colours such as hot pink, becoming increasingly popular over traditional flesh-toned, sheer pantyhose.
Marlene Smillie, of hosiery importer Ambra Corporation, said there had been an increase of up to 70 per cent over the past 12 months of coloured opaque and patterned tights.
"Savvy shoppers know that with a small investment of between $15 and $30 they can totally update their look and fashionability of an outfit," Ms Smillie said.

Easy DIY tights!

hansel from basel!

Dazzling legs are only a quick fix away! Get your sawing kit out and have fun creating your very own masterpiece.

Embellished Tights

What you'll need:
Black or nude nylon tights (50 or 70 denier will work best!)
Sequins and beads
Hot glue gun
Thin cardboard to put inside the tights as you work
1. Cut the insert board into a rounded rectangle to fit into the tights. This prevents the hot glue from sticking the tights together.
2. Lay out the sequins or beads in your preferred pattern
3. Dot hot glue onto the center of each sequin, then gently but firmly place on tights.
4. Loosen the cardboard off the embellishments once the glue dries.
5. Go out and show off your work of art!

Colour Me Beautiful!

Colour was a very strong theme at Balenciaga this season. Nicolas Ghesquière has presented in New York a bold collection of structured, high-tech pieces paired with the brightest hosiery we have seen so far on the runaway!
Models wore towering platforms inspired by the French industrial designer Charlotte Perriand and on their legs, were yellow, red, green, a rainbow of jewels-coloured  tights.
Perhaps not a trend that everyone can embrace, but it surely gets our thumb up for beating winter blues. Still not sure if it is for you? Well, just keep in mind these simple guidelines and jump in!
  • Slim legs can practically wear any colour of the rainbow. The brighter the better!
  • If you are not super confident about your pins, don't worry, you can still wear colour and look fabulous. You will find darker hues like purple, indigo, olive or burgundy more flattering.
  • Petite frames should opt for colour with vertical details (stripes, embroidery, appliqués) that will create a lengthening effect.
  • Forget your ballet pumps for today and wear with platform heels or chunky ankle boots!
And yes, the Balenciaga hosiery will be for sale with a  whopping $100 price tag, but you can get yours for so much less at SweetPins.com.au!

A moment of weakness..

It might have been all this frenzy about the SATC 2 movie and photos of Carrie sporting fabulous vintage outfits everywhere.. or I am probably just having a revival moment.
I gave in. This morning I bought myself a pair of leg warmers. It has been an impulsive purchase, I admit, but they looked so nice and warm. And I couldn't wait, so I put them on straight away.
Layered over my current favourite tights, the Trasparenze Fedora in sangria.

Mmm.. I am definitely having an Eighties moment. And I feel so happy!

Pretty Socks

Adding some cute socks to your basic opaques can create a totally unexpected result! Play with colours and prints and layer different textures..

Wearing polka dot tights is such an easy way to add a girlie touch to your outfit.. If you are looking for a more subtle effect, choose monochromatic options. But if you want to have some fun, add a splash of colour and get snapped!!

AUTUMN/WINTER 2010 - HOSIERY TRENDS

JEWELED LEGS

Jewels, diamantes, swarovski beads, appliques in every shape and material are the new must haves for 2010.
Your tights become a work of art, your legs reclaiming full attention once again.
Embrace this trend with luxurious lace tights worn with soft sweater dresses and knee-high boots or get your creativity kit out and experiment with some DIY!

TIMELESS ELEGANCE

Special night?
The secret for looking impeccably elegant is trying to maintain the balance between the dress and accessories, blend in shapes and colours with perfect harmony.
For example, matching a classic element, as it might be a simple black shift, to something more refined, eccentric and with character.
Enhance your black shift with hosiery that has a feminine touch, a bow, a flower, something that will add personality to the rigour of the dress.

AUTUMN/WINTER 2010 - HOSIERY TRENDS

WHITE TIGHTS

White tights were all the rage on the catwalks and it's no surprise, since they can look truly wonderful in winter and despite common beliefs, they are also quite versatile.
Here's some different looks you can achieve:

Lovely vintage. Opaque white tights will add a Sixties appeal, especially if worn with boots or can complete a romantic    touch if worn with lace and delicate patterns.
Sophisticated and glamorous. Pulling off an 'white-head-to-toe' look is not for everyone, but it is oh!so chic and  screams glamour from every side. If htt is not your cup of tea, opt for natural colours for your dress and shoes and wear with soft white stockings.
Modern. Team white stockings and your favourite LBD and the result will be astonishing. For women who are in control.

SOCKS
Of every colour, size and texture- by now we have all realized this is a trend that cannot be ignored!
Socks can add an edgier touch to every outfit, can be sharp, quirky, romantic or sexy. If you have never worn them before, start with safer options like black and plain textures. You will soon love them and will want to add more to your wardrobe! Match with the colour of your shoes and your pins will look super long!
